Early automobile advertisements were designed to appeal to a group audience as opposed to the individual. In reviewing a 1947 advertisement for De Sot cars, the ext and the picture are large trying to grab the attention and attract groups of people at a time. Also, by having both a large text and a large picture, more people are able to see and read it from afar, which makes it more noticeable to the public.
